Chill out in Sweden’s extraordinary ice hotel
The Ice Hotel at Jukkasjärvi in Artic Sweden really is an ephemeral thing.
A brand new hotel and art exhibition is built beside the frozen River Torne every year. And every spring it melts. When winter comes in is reincarnated again in a totally new guise.
Fifteen ‘art suites’ are created each season. In this video from Conde Naste Traveller, Arne Bergh from the Ice Hotel talks about their creation and how art sits at the very heart of the hotel.
The art suites are created by artists from around the world, with designs chosen from an annual competition.
The rooms can crazy, innovative, creative or beautiful.
The only requirement is that the design includes a bed and can be made solely from ice and snow.
As Arne says, guests literally sleep in a work of art.
Where else in the world can you do that?
