How you can help Húsavík win an Oscar

The small Icelandic fishing town is leveraging its starring role in Will Ferrell’s Eurovision movie for greater things.

As an Oscar winner myself – well, tangentially at least – I know how hard it is to catch the eye of the Academy.

So I take my hat off to the small Icelandic fishing village of Húsavík.

They’re capitalising on the success of Will Ferrell’s Eurovision movie to help promote the town.

Much of the movie was set in this pretty little Icelandic fishing town. In many ways it was the breakout star of the movie.

Well, along with its resident angry guy, Olaf Yohansson, AKA the Ja Ja Ding Dong guy.

You might remember we asked the actor who played Olaf, Hannes Oli Agustsson, to list the reasons you should visit Húsavík.

The town is campaigning for a song from the movie called ‘Húsavík (My Home Town)’ to win the Oscar for Best Original Song.

They hope the publicity will help them raise funds for a Eurovision Museum in the town.

If I’m being honest, I would have preferred it if they were campaigning for ‘Ja Ja Ding Dong’ to win the Oscar.

And in the video on the Óskar for Húsavík website, you’ll notice I’m not alone.

Olaf the ‘Ja Ja Ding Dong’ guy wants it to win too.

But hey, anything that helps get the Eurovision Museum built is fine by me.

It gives me an excuse to go back to my favourite town in Iceland.
